Alvin Masarira is a professional civil/structural engineer and holds BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Civil/Structural Engineering from Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Germany as well as a PG Diploma in Project Management from the University of Cape Town. He is a structural engineering consultant with Isithelo Mining Consultants & Services as well as with Structural Simtech Consulting – companies which provide expert engineering services to the mining, manufacturing and other related industries.

Prior to that he worked in the same capacity at Anglo American, and also taught civil/structural engineering at both under- and post- grad levels at the University of Cape Town. He still serves as a guest lecturer to the universities of Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Alvin is very passionate about God’s work.  He has completed the Global Partnerships “Tent Makers” training on cross-cultural ministry by the Institute of World Missions, Andrews University, Michigan, USA.  He is also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Southern African Adventism, and coordinator of ASI’s Research and Development Unit.  He was instrumental in convening ASI’s first Conference on Adventism, Society and Sustainable Development in 2013.

Alvin’s hobbies straddle a variety of sport disciplines, reading and travelling. He is married to Limakatso, a medical doctor, and they have 3 children.
